Share ko lang itong chance encounter ko with a grab driver last time:
Nagstart ang conversation dahil sa paulit ulit na hukay ng maynilad at sa trapik. Tapos sabi ko, bakit ba tayo nagtitiis sa ganitong klase ng pamumuhay, di na ba tayo natuto, and then I decided to point out the tarps of bong go all over Quezon City (and other places and how expensive to rent those huge billboards) and asked bakit ang dami nyang pera? Tingin mo mananalo yan? He said Bong Go is famous but he’s waiting for Bato sa Senate.
He is definitely a Duterte supporter (when he said he will not vote for any dilawan candidate), but when I pointed out the MRT along commonwealth he was adamant that it was Pnoy who started it despite the fact that I’ve read somewhere na it was shelved by Pnoy only to be continued by Duterte.
He was against all dilaws and he asked me kung dilawan ako. I said: “Di ako dilaw, actually di ko iniisip ang partido, iniisip ko yung tao. Kasi walang perpektong partido.” napansin kong medyo napaisip siya, my point in saying that is to de-escalate identity politics and redirect the conversation to issues na I think mas importante.
Kapag kasi you say na dilawan ka you are already affirming their beliefs, and yung belief nila na yun, ang di ka sigurado kung ano, and if negative yun, you will be forced to defend anything you say, instead of them defending their stand you have to re-frame the entire conversation na they are instead answering your questions.
It doesn’t mean that you are lying when you say na you are not dilawan, it just means that you don’t want to be boxed in their own definition of what a dilawan is. The best thing you can do is perhaps ask them what they mean by being a dilawan pero that would drag on longer instead of hitting them where it hurts and that is with good reasonable arguments. if there’s more time you can have this kind of conversation.
Don’t get me wrong when sinabi kong hindi ako dilawan that is true kasi dilawan is wrongly equated to identity while in fact it is just an ideology na ang dami pang wrong assumptions ng mga Ka-DDS, it is also something na sa utak ng mga Ka-DDS eh if Dilawans do something wrong eh, we being followers and dilawans ourselves will look the other way which I think is not true for a lot of us.
So WE DEFER TO THE SENSE OF MORAL JUSTICE dun dapat papunta ang conversation.
Bakit? Kasi people can distinguish right from wrong intrinsically, the problem is how you can make them “feel it” instead of “think it”.
I also said na ang sukatan ko na nang isang mabuting gobyerno eh yung kung magkano ang naiipon ko at magkano ang kayang bilhin ng pera at kita ko. (again feeling in this case gutom)
Kasi sa totoo lang di ko na nabibili yung mga dating nabibili ko sa pera ko, at di na ako gaanong nakakakain sa labas (again malapit sa bituka nila because they wouldn’t listen about EJK kasi sobrang alien sa kanila ng concept na yun, not that its gasgas but that it’s too far from their consciousness mas malakas pa ang doubt nila)
Sabi nung driver gusto nya yung Build3x kasi maganda ang plano sa bansa and may trabahong mapapasok, to which I countered, eh kung ganun bakit mga intsik ang pinapagtrabaho nila hindi mga pinoy?
He strongly agreed with this. (he got the bait again, feelings first)
I added, nanalo na nga tayo sa arbitration laban sa China (to which he said arbitration lang wala namang magagawa) pero di ba dapat ang ginagawa natin eh kumakampi tayo sa mga bansang binubully nang China kasi kung magkagulo tayo ang ma-eetsepwera sa south-east asia? (Again he agreed)
He said, di rin nya maintindihan kung bakit Pro-China si Duterte. (seeds of doubt)
He also mentioned that he is for lowering of age of criminal liability to 9 year old kasi nagagamit daw ng mga kriminal ang mga bata, sabi ko ako mismo nung 9 years old ako kapag bigyan mo ko ng 100 pesos madali mo kong mapaikot, ang concern ko naman eh yung na-aabuso ang batas na ito lalo na sa mga palit ulo. (attributing to human imperfection)
And then I told the story of how my uncle was a victim of this even at the time of Cory Aquino (yep we were made to pay around 20,000 – 40,000 pesos maski walang kaso tito ko at tinaniman lang ng marijuana tapos kinulong ng mahigit isang buwan) so tingin mo hindi ito ma-aabuso ng mga pulis ngayon sa dami ng inosenteng na-E-Ejk (this is the part na pinasok ko ang EJK kasi mas malapit sa idea ng palit ulo). Dito siya napadilat kasi I specifically mentioned Cory pero ang puntirya ko eh yung abuso. Halos di siya makapaniwala sa narinig nya at medyo natulala.
Ayun bumaba nako. Di ko na rin kinuha sukli ko. At nagpasalamat ako sa usap namin.
